The Department of Public Safety would like to make the Humber community aware that we have received a few reports from students advising that they have been approached by strangers and encountered suspicious behaviour, off campus but near Humber property.
We wish to remind the Humber community of the following personal safety strategies and to be alert to their surroundings.
- Do not engage strangers approaching you.
- Do not enter vehicles with unknown persons.
- Do not be afraid to offend a stranger by walking away.
- Add the Guardian App to your phone and use the Call Humber Security button for assistance when on campus.

The Department of Public Safety would like to remind the community:
- Be aware of your surroundings and of others around you
- Make note of descriptions of the potential suspect / vehicle / license plate / what was said-asked / direction of travel
- Call security, or police if off campus, to report suspicious or concerning behaviour
- Security is available 24 hours a day and can be reached by calling 416-675-8500, or by using a campus emergency (code blue) phone or by using the ‘Call Humber Security’ button on the Guardian App.
- Enter a place of safety with other people/witnesses’ present (e.g., coffee shop)
- Walk in groups-avoid walking alone at night-safety in numbers
- Avoid dark, isolated areas
- Campus walk is available 24 hours a day, by calling security
