The Humber Hawks compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics as a charter member of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA). Humber fields 20 varsity teams with approximately 250 student-athletes supported by 11 full-time staff on the campus of Humber Polytechnic in Etobicoke, Ontario.

College sports fans would be hard-pressed to find a program more steeped in tradition than Humber. Since Humber began varsity in 1967, the legends associated with the Hawks have passed down through generations of fans.

The administrators within the athletic department pondered possible nicknames for the college athletic teams. It was in that instance that a hawk soared across the valley field that the campus overlooked. It was a natural choice, as the hawk represented the qualities that Humber Athletics would aspire to.  It is powerful, a predator and graceful. The name Humber Hawk not only sounded right, it perfectly embodied both sport and competition.
