A planned protest against food prices and food plans at Humber Polytechnic fizzled out when only four people showed up on Oct. 10.

An anticipated student protest today against Chartwells, the catering company contracted to supply food at Humber Polytechnic, was at best underwhelming.

Four students showed up at the Lakeshore campus residence cafeteria, located on the sixth at 3199 Lakeshore Boulevard West, to protest high prices and mandatory meal plans.

There were also two uniformed security guards patrolling the residence cafeteria anticipating a protest.

A 12:30 p.m. update on the Chartwells protest Instagram stories directing people to go to the main L Building cafeteria. Upon arriving about 12:45 p.m., there wasn’t any gathering of students at this location.

Students approached by Skedline.com were not aware of any protest and they didn’t see any type of gathering.

A security guard said they were aware of the protest but also didn’t see any type of gathering.

Kieran Baker, a second-year student in the acting for television and film program, had followed the Instagram page @humber.chartwells_protest and planned on joining the protest. He went to the L building cafeteria but left after seeing there wasn’t any type of protest going on.

Baker said he was disappointed in the turnout, but would start a petition to collect signatures from students.

Skedline.com reached out to the Instagram account @humber.chartwells_protest for comment but didn’t get a response back at the time of writing this story. More on this developing story to come.
