Despite winning only two seats, supporters of the Green Party who came out to Delta Hotel Convention Centre in Guelph were ecstatic with the election results.
People waved their Green Party signs and "I LIKE MIKE" pins in the air as they watched the screen together, as the results for Guelph flashed on the screen.
Mike Schreiner, Green Party leader, won his riding in Guelph for the third consecutive election with 56.9 per cent of the vote.
Many supporters, including Tracey Mackie Vlietstra, say Schreiner resonates with her because of his humility.
“I'm involved in a lot of volunteer opportunities in the community of Guelph, and Mike is always standing with us, serving meals to the homeless, supporting people on the picket lines, “ she said.
Another riding the Green Party targeted was Parry Sound-Muskoka, which the Green Party has continuously missed by a small margin.
In 2022, the Progressive Conservative MPP Graydon Smith won the riding with around 20,000 votes while Green Party Deputy Leader, Matt Richter, lagged with around 18,000. In 2025, Smith won again with around 21,000 votes versus about 19,000, respectively.
Despite this, Schreiner said the Green Party accomplished one of its goals in Kitchener Centre. MPP Aislinn Clancy was able to win the riding with 51.4 per cent of the vote.
This is no surprise to Darren Elias, the Ontario Greens communications director. He said the energy of their supporters when he was in Kitchener earlier on election day was eclectic.
"You can really feel the momentum. Knocking on doors, you can see people are really excited to re-elect her," he said.
Despite being disappointed with the loss in Parry Sound, Schreiner said he and Clancy will march down to Queen's Park and hold the Ford government accountable.
“We're gonna be willing to work across party lines when it means putting people first and getting things done for our community," he said.
Schreiner said, despite his worries about the Ford government, he, Clancy and Richter will be at Queen's Park to fight for the message they believe in. Nor should supporters fret over the results which saw the PCs win 80 seats, the NDP 27, the Liberals 14 and the Greens with two.
“Don’t agonize, organize," he said. "We saw how people's power saved the Green Belt. We can do the exact same thing when it comes to protecting people's education and the environment.”
