In celebration of Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving, the Humber Gives initiative, hosted its first-ever Humber’s Got Talent in support of the Student Food Security Fund.

In celebration of Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving, the Humber Gives initiative, hosted its first-ever Humber’s Got Talent in support of the Student Food Security Fund.

In the LinX lounge, Humber staff showcased their talents while raising money for students who suffer from food insecurity.

The goal was to raise $1,000, equivalent to about 200 days of meals for students assisted by the initiative.

Staff entry was a $5 fee with all proceeds going to the fund. Student entry was free.

There were numerous donations on top of the already booming ticket sales.

In the theme of food security, a free soup/ bar was available at the event for anyone attending. Food vouchers for $5 rokboxes were handed out at Villa Madina during the event.

Sponsors and hosts, Derek Stockley and Jennifer O’Brien said at the end of the event, that $3,600 had been raised after staff members made numerous large donations, roughly 720 days of meals.

Open call auditions were held at the North and Lakeshore campus for faculty interested in showing off their talents.

The event showcased numerous talents and a variety of cultures.

Faculty performers included Shierel Caoagas, Oscar González, Lisa Pfau, Shristi Shrestha, Pooja Singh, Dave Smiderle and Peter Tan.

Jennifer O’Brien and Derek Stockley kicked off the event by introducing Humber Gives, a staff-run initiative that gives back to the Humber community by supporting students that are struggling financially through scholarships, bursaries and emergency funds.
