Faculty members voted 79 per cent in favour of authorizing a strike as necessary with 11,848 members, or 76.1 per cent, voting.

The ratio is 1 counsellor to 10,672 Humber students.

Humber Polytechnic announced the closure of its longstanding Commercial Driver Training Class G to AZ Tractor Trailer Program. Humber said in a statement changing market conditions and economic feasibility were the primary reasons for the suspension.

OPSEU, the union representing faculty, has called for a strike vote in October as contract talks move slowly.

The union said in an email to its faculty members that it is filing for conciliation. It could also soon seek a strike mandate vote. The last strike went on for five weeks.
