Fairclough provides Liberal breakthrough in Etobicoke-Lakeshore

Ontario Liberal Party candidate Lee Fairclough upset PC incumbent Christine Hogarth will turn Etobicoke-Lakeshore red for the first time in seven years.

With all 71 polls reporting, Fairclough had a 4,145 vote lead over Hogarth while NDP Rozhen Asrani garnered 3,640 votes.

Hogarth previously unseated Liberal incumbent Peter Milczyn in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022, winning by over 800 votes ahead of Fairclough. Hogarth was also the Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Minister of Red Tape Reduction.

Hogarth’s campaign office has refused interview requests from Humber Et Cetera since mid-February and did not attend a debate co-hosted by Daily Bread Food Bank and LAMP Community Health Centre on Feb. 12.

They also declined to comment on the election results.

Before running for MPP in 2022, Fairclough worked in healthcare for nearly 25 years. She resigned as president of St. Mary’s General Hospital in 2022 to join the Ontario Liberal Party.

Fairclough’s campaign primarily focused on enhancing Ontario’s healthcare and education systems.
